Kismet and the IPW2200 dr So here is a tremendous hack to make Kismet work with the IPW2200. It's ENTIRELY LIKELY that this will outright hang your machine (though it hasn't for me, yet). DO NOT complain to ME or INTEL if this causes funny behavior, molests your cat, or just doesn't work. Monitor mode is still on their todo list, and I probably won't add a capture source for it until they officially support it. 1. Download the ipw2200 drivers from the sourceforge page. 2. Edit the Makefile and uncomment the line ``CONFIG_IPW_PROMISC''. Notice how it says don't do this because it won't work right? If you're worried, listen to them and wait for official support. 3. Symlink the ibss firmware to the sniffer firmware. (Go to whereever your hotplug keeps the firmware and ``ln -s ipw-2.2-ibss.fw ipw-2.2-sniffer.fw'' 4. Unload your old modules, load your new ones. 5. Either have monitor mode or a nasty system crash. This should work with Kismet as a ipw2100, and will probably also function without difficulty as other capture sources like the Orinoco. There are no per-packet stats and it (currently) seems unable to fetch the channel that its on. I'm curious to hear how well this works for others, hit up the forums, but don't complain if it doesn't work at all. Update: See this post. This doesn't do what I'd thought/hoped it did. Sorry, everyone.
